During the Renaissance there were many important advances in the medical field. Human anatomy was becoming greatly more understood as doctors autopsied corpses. They were able to understand how the body worked and organ functions. The female reproduction organs were discovered and greatly studied. Diseases were also being learned about. During the Renaissance they made some world changing discoveries when it came to illness and diseases. They discovered diseases spread with individual particles not because a person has upset God. This discovery was vital to history. Diseases like small pox and the black plague would have a less likely chance of killing and spreading if scientist knew this information. This information allowed doctors to try to produce individual medicinal ways to cure there illnesses. In other words they were creating vaccination or a cure. They also discovered many different techniques for surgery. Barbers were often surgeons. They used the same tools in both fields, As you can imagine it was a very painful process during that time. They tried cauterization and sewing the wound up as different ways of stopping bleeding. They found it you sewed up a wound and then applied herbs to the wound it would heal quickly. Many different doctors played around with different ideas of healing especially on the battle field. The use of guns impacted the doctor’s ability greatly. Herbal remedies started being greatly used. They used many different plants to help cure different illnesses and pains. They got these ideas from Arabian literature. Some of the ideas ended up being harmful but most was the beginning of a really useful medicine for modern times. This period of time was a great time of innovation and discovery for the medical field. The Renaissance artist and scientist made many important discoveries and toyed with ideas expanded on in the future.

Human Anatomy
There was great discovery on human anatomy during the Renaissance. Artist started this anatomy "discovery" age. They wanted to know more about the human body to make their art more realistic.Antonio Pollaiuolo was the first artist to perfect the skinning of a human body. He did this to learn more about human muscles for his artwork. They ended up leaning more about anatomy than was taught at any school. This sparked the learning age for anatomy. Scientist have autopsied human corpse before this time but during the Renaissance they came up with the most accurate description in history. They learned extensively about different systems and organs in the human body. They studied and began to fully understand the female reproductive system. Scientist,Girolamo Fabrizio, disovered heart valves.
Surgery
Surgery became used more and more because of the growing use of guns and bombs. This made surgery more necessary. Doctors had to get creative on the battle field on different surgery methods. They came up with different methods of how to stop bleeding and closing up wounds. They tried different methods such as cauterizing and just sewing up the wound and then adding a herb mixture to the wound. Barbers were often the surgeons on the battle field. This is so because they use similar tools in each of the fields. As you can imagine surgery at that time was really painful.
Diseases and how they spread
During the renaissance, scientist started discovering how diseases actually spread. The belief that diseases were gods punishment was primarily gone. They discovered they were tiny particles that spread. They could not avoid the sickness just by waring a costume of praying. They figured out that diseases could spread through animals, water, air and many other things. They also figured out there was individual treatment to each different disease. Doctors started working on different medications and vaccinations of different diseases.
Herbs and Remedies
During the renaissance many different herb remedies were starting to be discovered. Different plants and roots from all around the world were worked with. They got these plants from different travelers and explorers. Arab writings sparked the interest of her remedies. Quinine was discovered and is still currently used to fight malaria. Quinine is from the bark of a Quina tree. Laudanum was a pain killer used during the Renaissance, it was used frequently for many different types of injuries and disabilities. The laudanum medicine is derived from the opium plant. Tobacco was thought to heal people but they later found out it could be deadly. Pharmacist were the ones who experimented with the different medications and uses.
Causes and Effects:
Discovered new Surgery techniques = Very advanced surgery techniques are around today
Discovery of how diseases spread = Epidemiology, know how to fight wide spread diseases
Human Anatomy discovery age = Very advanced knowledge today about the human body
Herb remedies = some herb remedies still stand today
